It shouldnt matter if you put enough decent layers of paint on top...ive always used red primer...

Depends on the manufacturer of the paint....go by their recomendation.

Should be white primer on red.. especially if its water based!

i'd go with red
when i had the clio it had stone chips and they showed up really badly because of the white primer

I've always used red primer, and got a good match.. Out of a tin though.
Mate works in a bodyshop, says they would use a grey primer if I remember rightly, but thint the primer or something.

True, although a place near me sells it, sign above the door saying "Solvent paint for industiral use only" ie, buidings etc, give the guy color code, he mixes, on your way, no questions asked
