Im after a cordless drill. Whats good? Dont want to spend too much, up to £50 maybe.
Not for anything TOO major. Just general stuff, maybe some lil bits at work, until my boss sorts his act out.

wont get much for £50 mate
maybe a ryobi, about the best for under £80, when you use cordless tools day in day out you realise you really do get what you pay for, all our gear is Makita Lithium-ion stuff and its brilliant.
Depends how much youll use it and for what.

bosch green is for diy, bosch blue is industrial. maybe look at ryobi? it'l only be 12v mind

I've just bought the Makita one screfwix are doing for 99 quid. comes with charger and 2 batteries. Have yet to use it but my bro uses Makita stuff day in day out...He's a plasterer.

How much of a difference does the different voltages actually make to the drill. I see some as high as 18-24V. But alot of the dewalts i seen are only 14.5V (cant afford dewalt, however my boss should be sorting one out when the company gets its act together)

I have a DeWalt cordless drill at work. Its only a 12v, But its one of the hammer drill type ones. Does the job brilliantly.
I was told when I was looking not to go off the voltage, But to go off the amperes. Think mines something like 2.3.
But for under £50 have a look in the screwfix book or even the argos book, Usually some decent ones in there

Check screwfix Dewalt one is 90 quid if you also have a 10% off
Look out for the different type of batts, NiCad and NiNH.
NiNH will lose their charge if left for a while so if you use the drill once a month it could be flat.
NiCAD do not lose charge over time so there will be power when come to use it.
SO everyday usage is NiNH and occasional is NiCAD
Also look out for the cooling fans on the drill, some are quite powerful and can blow dust in closed areas.
When looking at AH rating also note the voltage.
14.4v 2AH is the same as 18v 1.6AH
18v 1.3AH is the same as 14.4 1.65Ah

screwfix have bosch 18v lithion combi drill for £150, comes with 3 batterys, awsome dirll use mine every day (joiner) and still like new after 6months. may be out your price range but it'l prob outlast you if you dont use it so often. i paid £300 for it tho

Dewalt = Dnt bother at that price!
Bosch = Only Blue if you can afford - Green = Stay away!
Your best best is trying to get a makita or panasonic! Both great companys!
For that money ur looking at a drill/driver!
I sell these at work and am training to be a carpenter.....I have a 18v Li-on Makita Combi Drill £199 plus the vat - Cant fault it!

any cheaper end dewalt tool is ex-black'n'decker, as b'n'd own dewalt. anythin high end dewalt will be ex-elu, which is worth spending money on.
in my opinion, bosch is a great buy, register your purchase on line with bosch, and you'll get 3 years warranty instead of 1year.
makita is also worth looking at, do alot of very good tools at the moment, although seem to be fairly expensive.
if your on a budget, and dont use them often ( not in a trade as your job) look at ryobis 1+ packages, you can buy a tool with batteries and a charger, then buy tools 'naked' (without batts & charger) as the 1+ systems batteries fit all other ryobi tools.
ps im assistant manager at hirestation, i use/hire/sell these as a job lol

good call i had one for 2 years used everyday, in the end the charger let go but drill was still going strong, solds it to a mate and its still going well

I have a Bosch green and its OK but only a single torque setting and it doesn't hold a charge if you leave it more than a day but it's also smaller and lighter than the more expensive stuff.

I have an Hitachi should have cost £250 but with discounts, sales and screwfix vouchers I ended up giving £90 for it. It is a fooking beast though. loads of power and holds it's charge really well.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

We've got about 8 Dewalt cordless drills at work, only one has ever died (motor fried itself and smoke poured out the casing) but the drill sar e great. The only problem we have with them (as they are used day in day out) is that after a while, the battreys just wont hold charge. We have about 15 batterys, of which we have 5 that are excellent, 3 that are ok, and the rest pure crap!

my Makita is getting a bit tired now, been a good drill, Im gonna try one of those Lime green Worx ones next, 18v with a metal gearbox and 2 batterys is £160
