I have a Samsung Mini DV VP-D372WH camcorder and I'd like to get the movies onto my PC. There is a small port on the camera but I'm not sure whether you need Firewire to transfer the movies? Is there anyway I can get a Mini DV to USB lead to transfer them or do they need to run with Firewire? Also, what software should I use to view/edit the videos? Any help appreciated as Im stuck on this one!

I have a spare Firewire PCI card if you need it mate You'll be able to get a wire from cableuniverse.co.uk

This should do it - http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/firewire-ieee-1394-6pin-4pin.html

You transfer the footage using Firewire - so you'll need a firewire port on your computer and then as Dave posted, a 6 to 4(DV) pin firewire cable.

As for software, anything like iMovie (Mac) or Windows Movie Maker (PC) will allow you transfer footage off your camera. Although if you're wanting to do anything more serious then i would get either Adobe Premiere (PC/Mac) or Final Cut (Mac) and have a play around, read a few tutorials etc.

Note though, DV transfers in real-time - So an hours worth of footage will take an hour to transfer.
