Im insuring the van, I put 10k I get a quote of £423, I change it to a more honest 20k and I get a quote of £530
most companys dont ask for an odometer reading so how do they know?
obviously Im gonna put 10k because they have no way of finding out

I wonder this as well tbh - most the big companies don't ask for it.
This year both my vehicles are on limited mileage policies.
Van through Zurich - didn't get asked mileage at start of policy
Corsa through Greenlight - got asked to provide mileage and sign declaration at start of policy

When my mate took out his insurance they sent him out a form and it asked for the current mileage, and had the mileage he agreed to then, then he had to sign at the bottom.
But ive never heard of it happening to anyone else

Whats to say that the policy holder was the one who covered the milage?
my brother for example could have driven my car for 10k miles last year being insured on it via his own policy and although i insure mine for 6k that 6k miles is just for me?

They way I've always looked at it is that its only a rough estimate surely? I've always just said 6k before but I've never done gone over it. Got unlimited mileage atm though

I got asked to sign for my mileage with flux, I put down 4k, done about 3.5 in 4/5 months and aid can I increase (as wanted to make car 100% legit) they put it up few more thousand nd didn't charge, since then I put new engine in with clocks that are about 20k less.
Best thing to do, is say 10k, when gets to about 9, put cloks back few thousand

What i don't understand is they ask for your estimated mileage, but they don't ask what the mileage is on the car when you insure it, so how do they know how much you do in a year?
Or do they just find it out when the cars MOT'd. I can't think of any other way they'd know it as you don't mention it when you tax the car etc?!

As has been said, unless they followed you for the whole mileage they can't tell how much you do.
Loads of people can drive my car on their own insurance, they could do 90% of the mileage for all the insurance know.

I found it funny, renewing my insurance this time.
I've got business use on it so they asked how many business miles. I told him less than 1k, as I was rarely using it for business. Then the guy said, tell you what I'll make it 2k just incase. So made it 10k sdp and 2k business instead of 11k sdp and 1k, I was just sat there thinking what's the point
Best of it is, it's not actually a limited mileage policy
