I have put a deposit down on this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201007352807089/usedcars/postcode/bd214rn?logcode=kp

after i went to look at i did one of those txt check things and it came back as a cat d which happened 4 years ago. The trader never said anything about this if i decide not to buy can i get my deposit back or do you think i should knock him down some more it needs a service and the rev counter and speedo cut out when driving and the battery light comes on he has promised to fix the dash and give it a service for me if i pay £2600 for it .i have also noticed theres no sri badge on the drivers side . opinions welcome

personally if it's got the problems you describe, and it is a Cat D, I wouldn't want to touch it, theres certainly alot of room for bargaining!

when my brother was looking for his first car about 8 years ago he bought a white corsa when we got home we did a check the next day though my uncle and it was written off a few years before so he foned the man up he was a trader and luckly he gave him all of his money back

if you be nice and not get cocky with him he might drop the price or give you your deposit back

personally i wouldnt buy a car without getting it checked first if you do get your money back take this as lesson learnt i wouldnt really own a written off car

"Antons car sales"...I'm assuming this is a car salesman. So he'll abide by the trading standards rules. Put it simply to him that you have done a check and it's a Cat D, so it's not sold as described, and you'd like your deposit back. If he refuses, take it to TS.

You won't get that fee back I don't think. Worth a try asking though.
