Me and the mrs have decided we wanna move out.
Trying to put a budget together to make sure we can afford it before wasting time going to mortgage advisors etc.
Since I know nothing about anything to do with moving out at the moment. Can everyone give me some ideas about stuff that i'm going to have to pay for that I might have over looked. So far ive thought of
Mortgage
house Insurance
Tv License
Council Tax
Gas / leccy
shopping / food etc
Petrol
Car Insurance
car tax
anything else I need to know about?

remember to put some money away for unexpected repairs/replacements and birthdays etc.
i'm in the same boots as you mate. best thing to do is ask your parents/friends etc every bill they pay out to get an idea of what you'll be paying and whether you've missed anything out.
also, any maintenance charges if you're moving into a flat.

How do you know what you have left when you don't know what your mortgage/insurance/council tax will be?

When we bought the house we had a rough idea of what we could afford on a mortgage then spoke to an adviser to play around with the figures. Deposit size plays a big part in it all.

Thats just a rough estimate going on what friends etc are paying, I checked the council tax band on the house I want thats how I knew what it would be. I rounded everything up just to make sure.
Spoke to mortgage advisor last ngiht and can get a 90% fixed rate for 5 years mortgage at 5.75% with Nationwide.

that's pretty good. i got a 90% for 3 years at 6.39% with halifax.
just depends whether you think the interest rates will shoot up in 3 years or stay low.

That's cool. I know we had a rough idea of what everything was going to cost and once we moved in we got the real prices. To be fair though our expected outgoings weren't much different to what they are in reality.
Have some money set aside for all the small things you want to do. Lots of small things end up costing loads :lo:
Are you looking at getting some where that you are going to redecorate?

Preferably we won't need to redecorate not right away anyway. we both have car loans finishing next year which will free up another 300 per month meaning well have 700 ish at the end of every month. so will plan to decorate and stuff then.
The house weve looked at has recently had double glazing windows re slated roof and a modern fitted kitchen fitted and most rooms are nuetral colours which wont need anything doing.
