Hi.

I need to completely clone a hdd from my laptop.

my desktop has hotswappable drivebays, so was hoping to stick the current laptop in one empty bay and the new hdd in a separate bay.

is there any free software i can use to copy or move everything across?. OS/ boot files etc included?

I use Karen's Replicator to make automatic backups to my second hard drive, it should be able to do what you're after http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp

Ghost is only needed if you want to create an image which is a bit ott if he's got the desktop to put the drives in.

The tool Dave posted should be fine.

Yeah the one I use literally copies the files over so my backups drive is literally a carbon copy of the main drive.
