Do you find it slightly saddening that parts for older cars and engines are becoming increasingly hard to find.

Take for instance corsa / nova projects, the shells themselves are ridden with rust now which in most cases require a lot of work, and engine components are becoming old and hard to find, and a lot of new parts aren't made anymore.

Same goes for old Fords like Cosworths, I mean im not that clued up on the Ford scene so could well be wrong but I doubt parts for the engines and cars are as available as what they were 10 years ago.

Its sad to think that some time in the near future we wont have any of these cars we take for granted at the moment, I wish I had the time, money and space to really work on a project car and go all out before its too late

I mean don't get me wrong there are good cars available now that are recent like VXR's RS's etc but they are expensive to buy and expensive to modify and you are actually limited to what you can do in a certain sense.

Thoughts?

I was thinking that some of the things I need might become quite 'rare' seeing as the model of Corsa I have has been superceded twice now. The good thing for me is, I could make a lot of the parts if I ever needed to.

It annoys me, I constantly check on ebay looking for stuff I may need in the future.

Example: a new header tank for a S1 goes for 300+ quid.

This is why you find a good shell, keep it in good cond and fit a new new engine, in a ideal world haha

A shame but in a way the effect also makes them a little more special if you get me, an odd balance tbh

Things move on. Get over it. Early Caterhams used Escort mk2 rear axles and Cortina front uprights. They are rocking horse shit these days. So things evolved. They started using Sierra diffs and independent rear suspension, now people have forgotten about live axles. Now the Sierra stuff is running out people are using Mazda Rear diffs. My dad had a Ford anglia when he was young. does anybody drool after these anymore? No. I bet in 20 years when you are driving your Astra Z you will look back and think what a pile of shite your Corsa was in comparison. Don't forget, they are only mass produced tat, designed to last a limited time. True classics like Landrovers are still going strong.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

In another way, There will always be someone somewhere with the part you need. OK it might take ages to find it but you will get there in the end.

There will be many companys doing reproductions of iconic cars and people making adaptations for poor design on the cars.

All it takes is a little looking around and a bit of time to find the parts you need. IMO Parts won't run out, it will just be finding them.

tell me about it, with the corrado, VW are just stopping making parts for it and the price of parts are getting stupid.

last time i went to buy a headlight lens, the early ones has all gone and there was about 8 left for my car.

things like the headlights and bodypanels i'm on about, running gear isn't so important

Old vw's like beetles etc are easy to get hold of things! My mk1 golf and caddy were pretty easy to get stuff for, tbh I have never had any problems with any cars I've owned, alot of manufacturers still make all the parts easy enough and there will always be decent shells out there.

I found it alarming that when I went to buy some special washers that you need to replace when replacing diesel injectors on my car there was only 1 dealer that had any in stock. And these must be needed all the time! Fair enough they're only a copper washer with some holes in, but still.

It is inevitable that one day there will not be a Corsa B on the road.
