Iv done a fair sets before and i used various grits of wet n dry used dry then if theres no chunks misin then use your primer (i used 1 full tin per alloy. Rub down between each coat then start sprayin your paint (imo try use vauxhall sapphire pearl) gives a nice sparkle in sunlight. (2 tins p/w) then sand down between coats. Then usd a couple of tins of clear lacquer. Hope this helps mate

If they are not kurbed, then give a rub over with a scotch pad, panel wipe/de grease, and paint. No need for flatting down each layer. Few dusty coats, then lay one on thick, leave to dry, then laquer the same way.
They were badly kurbed, all that got was sand down, scotch, primer, flat primer, paint and laquer.
