The rear and front gearbox mounts have gone together perfectly. Went to bolt the front engine mount up and it's about 1 inch away from the chassis mount.
Trust me to have an unheard of problem
Any ideas?

try putting the front gearbox mount on, then the front mount as it looks as if the engine is to far forward

It's only too far forward as that's how it's sitting if you push it so the holes were to line up there is still a 1 inch gap.
The other two mounts are all bolted up as well.

I personally put the rear mount on last mate as you can get a bit of movement without it fitted.

It's not that that is the problem, I did manage to get both the front gearbox mount and the front engine mount bolted together at the same time.
But it was pulling the rubbers out of the mounts and neither were bolted up fully.
It's as if the front engine mount is just too short, is the length of that mount the difference between a type 1 and a type 2 conversion kit?

When bolted up correctly it's pretty much dead on flush with the cam cover. A few millimetres protrusion at most.

I think I had this with mine but bought an extra bracket from Chris Ashley Motorsport,
This was because the engine and mounts came out of an 8v shell and I had a 16v shell.

So you think I may have an 8valve mount?

Take the bolts out of the rear mount,
You'll get the chassis mount bolted up easily then.
Then the engine has plenty of movement to get the rear mount back on.

Looks identical to yours Jamie, just spoke to Luke who I bought it off and it's definately an * valve setup. There just isn't enough length in something to allow the two front mounts to be done up at the same time.
I'm thinking about spacing the chassis mount off the chassis leg.

Was going to say this, I had the same problem - they gearbox mounts vary in length.

You lot are correct was the front gearbox mount!
Raided one off a chavved up corsa 1.2 16V in a scrap yard. Lucky it had a 16v sun-strip or I wouldn't have noticed
