I understand that normal polorised (Red/Green) will obviously work with normal TVs, but Avatar which uses different (new) technology, will require a new type of 3D TV.
I might be wrong though

Red green isn't polarised.
Any current technology uses alternating left and right frames so needs some sort of glasses.
Polarised ones definitely need a new TV, some of the other methods could technically work without a new TV I think, but won't.

you sure?
I thought with red/green (or red/blue), there are two images projected and you wear the 'polarised glasses' to seperate them?
Obviously theres lot of different technologies, but in general....?

The red green one has 2 coloured images on screen at the same time, the red and green go in each eye.
Polarised and all the shutter technologies show the right frame then the left frame, either with different polarisations or a shutter blocks the light to one eye.
