I know there are a few quantity surveyors here just wondering if anyone has got a take off for a hip roof with references to SMM7.

I only need it as a reference as I am currently doing a take off (assignment based) but a bit unsure if I am going in the right direction as the truss layout has me a little stumped.

Cheers all!

sorry to hijack; but along the same lines.

Does anyone have a Pitch roof design, especially the union with the vertical wall. I'm struggling to get my head around the best way or which way the joists/trusses should be supported at the wall end

Do you have a roof layout of what you want to do?

Fad, your take off is for a trussed roof?

So your normal full trusses would be fitted all the way up to half the span from the end of the roof.
So this would be where Voyto could really help, you would essentially need two hip trusses and some half span trusses.
Not sure what replaces jack rafters on a trussed roof, small half trusses?

I have been reading a really good book recently, Building Quantities Explained - SMM7 revision, Ivor H. Seeley.

Take off for trussed components would be enumerated with reference to the dimensioned drawing, stating the method of jointing members.

Cheers for the interest guys, its a Trussed roof with hips and valleys.

The bungalo is an "L" return shape with no gable ends.

Almost figured it out using two difference trusses as described up to half the span, also used jack rafters and various bracings to suit.

Will have a look at that book above as my copy of Will's Elements to Quantity Surveying seems quite limited.

I would upload the drawing but its a hard copy in an A3 format

Oh ok, so did you use sets of smaller half trusses to form the jacks, obviously diminishing in size as you go further down the hip.

I would be interested to see your taking off list and dims for the roof!

What course are you on Fad?

Couldn't recommend this book more highly, got me through many a measurment coursework/exam. As for you original request I'll have a hunt through my old files and see if I can find any old question/example I've looked at.

I'm glad other people rate the book, it was recommended by my my QS lecturer and has really helped so far.
I'm studying Construction Management to gain a Foundation Degree, then will be going on to do a QS degree.
