Doesnt matter where you go and what engine you have - you will still be paying over £1200 on your own policy. The only way to get it lower is to do it illegally - on a parent's policy.
Oh and when they find out about your conversion you will get raped for the next 6 years on insurance quotes

How so? If you are insured to drive a car, then drive it. If someone else is insured to drive your car, then they can drive it...Can't see why it would matter tbh.

It is illegal to be insured as a named driver on your own car, and have your mum as the main driver when she never uses the car technically.
However, everyone i knew pretty much at the age of 17 including myself did this on direct line. As they allow you to transfer your no claims as a named driver onto a normal policy.
