Might be wrong, but because of the file system used (databases?), there is no need for the above. Applications are a single drag/drop

Not sure about Safari, but for os updates, Apple logo in top left corner -> OS Software Updates

OnyX for OSX maintenance
OSX sorts it self out with regards to defrag
You can clear Safari's cache/temp files from within the options, although just install FireFox etc
As Bart said, Apple Logo > Software Update

as said, no need for disk cleanup/defrag
I use firefox under mac, however if you open safari, click safari it gives you the options to reset safari or clear the cache.

I use a program called CleanMyMac. It clears caches, logs and general stuff you can delete such as universal binaries and language files.

Usually updates pop up automatically when they are ready to download so you dont have to keep checking.
