I'm obviously going to say the ST, as I own one. I do like the look of the VXR, but I feel I got better value going for the ST, 12k miles, 2 years old for £13k. When I was looking all VXR's had much more mileage on for that money, that's probably changed now though.
Personally, it was the engine, the chassis and the build quality that sold it to me. The handling is pretty damn good, Im sure the void between the VXR and the ST isn't as big as Daimo makes out..... I also don't understand the seats thing? Everyone whose been in the car has said how comfy they are, although I will accept the side boulsters aren't as big as the VXR, although I found myself catching my arse on them everytime I got in a VXR....
Anyway, I think they offer better value for money personally, even if some people do consider them a bit soft. The engine sound is addictive, especially now I've got the Mongoose exhaust fitted, and the kits from Mountune/ Dreamscience etc. turn it into a different machine apparently.
Fuel economy is poor, but don't buy either if your worried about that. I get 30mpg on a decent motorway run, and 1000 miles of commuting in town, stop start traffic and motorways see's around 24mpg.

Mase I agree that the st's are cheaper than the vxr, but then I make up for the costs at the other end when it comes to insurance, the ST is about £500 to £750 more expensive than the vxr to insure for the year.

really? It was the other way round for me, the VXR was ever so slightly more expensive. I'm insured through a broker whose on FocusSTOC, joining the club gives some level of discount as well I believe. I pay around £750 at 23 with 3yrs no claims.

rollers could've been out though, even though everyone elses cars were bang on or down on factory figures.
the main man there actually said to me that all the facelift st's he's had on the r/r have been above factory figures.

the focus ST seems a massive car in real life, especially the rear end, just BIG

Focus ST just looks Soooo dated now, especially the orange. I think its because a colour like that dates the car to the time it first came out so everytime i see one i think how old they are now. Also, no better performance for much more fuel. VXR for me please.

I think the Astra is more 'sleek' and the Focus is abit more box like. I'm sure the Focus is a great car, but I just don't like the look of it.
The white one in my pic actuallyhas a pearl on it and is a really nice colour in the flesh

The Focus looks good but the Astra just looks far more sporty to me

yes the astra looks more like a coupe, whereas the focus is no doubt a family hatchback

I'd rather a VXR having driven neither, based purely on the looks etc...
