Afternoon
As some of you know i have a lay z spa inflatable hot tub.
Its pretty efficent, but i need to workout roughly how much its going to cost me to leave it heated all the while.
I already know that it drops around 8-10 degrees in about 12-14 hours through the evening/night.
I know that the heater is 2kw, and heats at around 1-2 degrees per hour.
Now i know its not as simple (i think) that its going to take 5 hours at 2 degrees/hr to keep that heat over night, as its going to be using the heater for short periods to just keep it warm.
What do i need to do to guesstimate this a bit better?
As it stands i let it cool, then re heat for 5 or 6 hours at least before i reuse it the next day/few days, which is costing me a fortune each time :/

just leave it on for a week and see what the difference is

If it uses 2kw/hour then it's going to cost you about 25p an hour to run it. So to heat it up it will cost you £1.25 if it take 5 hours. Presumably it has a thermostat so that once it's up to heat the element will only be on when it's required so as long as you can keep the heat in it, it wont cost much to run...

Yea, has a thermostat.
So if i say it loses 16 degrees per 24hours ( i think its less)
Would i be right to say:
It loses (roughly) 0.5 degree every hour, as i can heat at 2 degrees per hour, i will only need to heat for 15mins every hour, to maintain that temp.
So per 24hours im going to need to heat for 5 hours per day to maintain that temp.
But i guess its totally irrelevant, as at higher temps etc, it will lose temp faster etc etc,
Ahh fuck it, ill have to record readings and see what happens via eleccy meter

Look at your bills, they are normally in tiers.
I think it would be fair to say you are already using your first tier, so whatever your second tier is per KWH, double it and that is what it costs you to run it.
2kw is FAR from efficient! Let it drop through the night, there is no point heating something when it's not in use, put it on a timed output. If you know you finish work at x time, set it a bit before hand and monitor the responce time. The responce will change according to the daily temp!

It's costing me 20.4p / hr
it's a bit pointless having it if it's not hot to get in when I want
I read the meter at 9 last night so will check when I get up. See what it's used

For a while. The effects soon wear off believe me.
Plus, you'll be wanting to empty it frequently where dirty people have got in leaving scum floating on the surface (no chemicals will remove the scum).
Heating from cold will take considerable time.

The misus parents have one, theres is on from easter till end of Nov, its by no means cheap and they use it pretty much every day, although it is a 7 person one so quite large, think its about 25p an hour we worked out with an energy meter.

It all depends how many hours its on for though doesnt it. It wont be heating for every hour between then
