Does a crown hurt less than a filling? Or more to the point - Scaling?

I had some scaling done today, it was fucking horrible, i'd prefer a dental filling anyday (awaits the puns).

I broke a tooth last year, had a temporary filling put in there which is holding tight and is as good as the original tooth but the dentist wants me to have a crown to complete the repair. The options were: NHS crown £280, Private White £380, or full gold which was £480.

Cant believe how much we have to pay even for NHS (which is supposed to be free isnt it as we already pay national insurance?)

So back to the question - Does a crown hurt more or less than a filling or scaling?

So it was comparable to a filling then, not really painful but not a nice sensation?
