Hi guys, just in a bit of dilemma how according to autotrader, the 1.4 16v sport corsa does around 37mpg, yet the 1.6 16v astra sxi 3 door does 40mpg? Yet i'm pretty sure they are both ecotec engines and i'm nearly 100% certain the Astra wud be heavier?

Can anyone shed any light as to which wud be more economical? I'm after either one of the cars but economy is a fairly big player for me as im still a student so can't afford a expensive car to run. Also, which would handle better?

Cheers, Andy

Corsa 12v would suit your needs, 10000mpg & cheap insurance.

Both the 1.4 & 1.6 drink.

Thanks for the help guys, but what I mean is which wud be better on fuel? As the guys over on astraownersclub say the 1.6 sxi astra is good for 40mpg driven carefully.

I've got a diesel at the mo, 1.7td estate astra mk3, it's not great on fuel, but i guess thats because i have to go most places flat out because it doesn't really move otherwise :/ I get max about 330 miles to £40, however that was when I first passed and barely revved it at all

Seriously, if you're concerned about the fuel consumption of a 1.4 Corsa, buy a 1ltr Micra or a small diesel.

I get around 250-300miles in my 1.4 sport, if i drive carefully.

Around 200miles if i rag it everywhere, its not that bad

My old 1ltr Polo used to do 100miles to £10. Loved it.

1.4 corsa will obviously be better on fuel, i don't think those autotrader numbers are always correct tbh
