I bought some new front brake discs today and my dad reckons you HAVE to change the pads when changing discs as they won't be evenly worn or something.
Is this right or can I just change the discs on their own?

£17.95 for a set of fronts from Euro Car Parts. I was there earlier as well
I'll be buying tyres tomorrow and lots of petrol this month so it quite literally might be the difference between being in the red or the black.
Edit: Euro Car Parts' site says this when you click on the item: "Brake pads are goverened by legislation known commonly as "REGULATION 90". They should be replaced when worn excessivley or when replacing the brake discs."
The reason I've been wondering whether they need to be changed or not is because they have loads left on them

They should be fine, but for the cost of a set of pads (especially if you have access to a trade discount) you may as well do it all.

I don't have access to trade discount.
Might ring the local motor factors on Tuesday and see how much they sell them for, I'm not in an immediate rush to get them on but would like them on before PVS.

Opinion from a mechanic here:
I wouldnt ever replace discs without changing the pads.
If your renewing the discs because of excessive wear/ lipped etc. The pads friction surface would have worn into a convex shap, thus you will only be braking on the centre of each pad.
This will also cause your new discs to wear quicker in the centre and not evenly.

I was thinking about this for me as well as im replacing my tigras discs, Found some new pads in the shed tho, so i will be changing.
If i was you tho, id replace, but with genuine vauxhall items, as they are the best, and not too expensive, get a price for em.
