Following on from discussions in the Robin Hood thread I think we need a new thread for the Alien Prequels.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/apr/27/ridley-scott-alien-prequels-3d
I feel a stirring in my pants for these films and it could resurrect the franchise. Im hoping Rodriguez Predators will for the predator franchise as well this August

personally i think these films were best in the period they were made originally. 1979 was alien wasnt it?
leave them alone instead of dragging them out with crap.

I'm sure I read they were going to be made using the same tecniques as the originals instead of CGI??
I didn't know he would be directing both either

In a 2002 interview, Scott wanted to return “to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created.” It sounds like this idea has been incorporated into the prequel/reboot. Jon Spaihts is writing the screenplay, a job he earned after pitching the studio and production company Scott Free. Spaihts has no produced credits, but has written Shadow 19 and Passengers, both of which are also sci-fi space thrillers. Star Wars and Alien art-director Roger Christian previously confirmed that the movie will be shot in 3D.
Scott says that Weaver likely won’t have a part in the movie, but reveals the main character is a woman. Also, we should expect the film in theaters “in late 2011, or maybe the best date in 2012.” What gets me excited about the project is Scott’s complete honesty about how the franchise has sucked dry (about Alien vs. Predator he said “I know it’s commerce, but what a pity”) and his lack of interest for ever making a sequel. Scott claims he’s “always avoided sequels” and is only directing this film becuase he feels “there was something fresh” Good enough for me…

I'm waiting for him to realise Blade Runner was flawed and The Final Cut, didn't cut it (See what I did there )
He should have kept an edited version of Deckards voiceover.

this would be great as I hate CGI. I'd much rather see a film with puppets than watch a computer generated film
oh, and you're right about bladerunner.

The 3D could work wonderfully. Imagine if the original was in 3d, the part where dallas is in the tunnels with the flamethrower, it would be scary as fook

Not sure how it's going to work with respect to humans, it's obvious that the Company knew about the existance of aliens on LV426 as Ash was programmed or told by Mother to wake the crew of the Nostromo.
Also Ripley states in her debrief 57 years later to Van Luwen that "they set down there on company orders" so someone previous to Ripley must have come into contact with the downed ship and the Space Jockey.
Going to be a very interesting story I know that for sure.

The reason I asked that is im hoping the Alien prequels will be a reboot of a franchise that was decimated by Alien resurrection (I remember an interview with H.R Giger saying the alien looked like shit (literally).
the trek franchise with the next gen crew was pretty much on its arse and the reboot was superb and enjoyed by non trek fans alike. I have high expectations for these films, more so then predators.
