quick question.. How do you tell the difference between the 3g and the 3gs? cant seem to find anything about it saying 3gs on the phone anywhere?

Two points above plus 3GS comes in 32GB where as 3G is 8 and 16GB.

It won't say what the model is on the back! It just lists the size!
Only way to tell without switching it on would be to type the serial number into the Apple service website, that'll list the warranty and phone model etc
If you switch it on, then just look for the compass aplication, or see if the video 'switch' (switch between video and still modes) is available in the camera app - if it has these then it's a 3GS, otherwise it's a 3G.

I'm sure it lists the model under the About panel, although it might be a MB70* model number in which case just google the model number and it'll tell you what phone you have.
