Either there on an advisory capacity / to spot offenders, in some states foreign officers can be deputised, dont know the specifics of this case however i will investigate..

Most countries will take a certain number of their own force over to aid the local police with dealing with their fans.

We do the same for European matches involving English clubs.

It seems on this occassion there is only a nominal amount of officers from the uk football policing unit have been sent to south africa however heres the most in depth press release i could find, it seems their role is mostly advisory, surveillance and to further intelligence on football violance for uk games.

Happens in the UK too. Beds Police come to Luton away games as they know the faces.

Domestic games have pretty much always had OB on a nice jolly looking out for lads to try and justify their jobs.
