You will now get assistance in the Search page when specifying a username.

There are three algorithms in place which are chosen based on the data available.

For short queries, the username will be taken from users who are active in the last 12 hours.

For longer queries, it is taken from all usernames.

Where no results are returned, a soundex comparison is used to yield more names which have comparable syllable sounds. This one is slightly more wacky and you'll get some that don't appear relevant but I've put it in there to help out if you're not clear on exact spellings.

In all cases, users must have posts in order to appear in that list.

I use it for making sure staff are active and also sending mass u2us to people.

It's not really widely adopted though.

No I mean the autocomplete list will be in the buddy list thing to add people, not on that page.
