last years results....
http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/999-2009/results-2009.html
am told its a 1/4 mile drag race, and the prelude appears to be running under 11secs? in fact all the times seem quick to me.
http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/999-2010/p999-winners-cars.html
^^^ the prelude mentioned, "very quick engine", yeah but am sure its not 10second quick?

400bhp GTiR's etc
fiddled accounts can make anything possible. I'll sell fee the GTR for £999 and she can go win it.

Does it actually say 1/4 mile? I can only see 'drag race'. It wasnt held at the pod last year I dont think.

well if its an 1/8th its very slow, i did look around and the site said 1/4mile
" We’re going to test straight-line speed in a quater mile drag race, then check out handling over a timed slalom course. And where better than one of the UK’s top drag strips."

Im sure in the rules it states that at any point the organisers can offer to buy the car for £999 and you cant refuse as thats what you have paid for it.

I've been bored this morning, so have done a fair bit of investigating into this, as I was also intrigued by the fast times.
In 2009, the event was held at Mallory Park - whereas in 2010 it will be held at Santa Pod and therefore will include a 1/4 mile drag race.
I found this thread on the PPC forum, which states that in 2009, the drag run was staged on the Kirkby Straight:
http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=5670
Therefore, looking at this picture on wikipedia, it can be seen that the straight is not 1/4 mile long - I can't find an exact distance that they used, but it definitely wasn't a 1/4 mile run!
I guess that all explains the slightly odd drag times! This year it should be easier to judge the speed, with them racing a proper 1/4 mile strip.

I didnt hear that when I was working at PPC. On the subject though, I designed the £999 challenge advert in PPC mag!

I read the bit about buying the car at the end of the event somewhere as well.
And yes, it's easily fiddled.
