I dont think a strike is right. It didnt work for BA.
I work for IT, our pay isnt negotiated by the union so I won't be on strike. The only departments that can cause a closure of the airport are the fire service and security. The problem is you have the security doing a boring job with quite good pay (the fire service get more then normal firefighters and barely get called out). The unions start telling them they could get more if they go on strike and they get greedy.
The airport used to be owned by BAA - we got decent pay rises and bonuses each year because the profits were shared out. Then we were bought by a Spanish company for £10billion. But they didnt have £10 billion so all the money they make they have to pay back this ridiculously high debt so there is no money for wage increases/bonus each year, especially when things like the ash cloud and BA strike happens.
IT are being out sourced to save money, wouldnt surprise me if they outsourced security next...

I work in an airport can i have some time off?
Same here, though striking doesn't make much sense for me as I'm a contractor - it's pretty much the same as taking a day off.
the airport i work in isnt even a public one and i have fuck all to do with the planes that come and go
just want a ew days off
