Is it Ok to mount a sub to a box with the magnet facing outward. I have a JBL power series sub, it has a huge chrome magnet and think it would look good like this.

no a free air sub needs to be in a shelf and uses the boot as an enclosure.
yes it is ok to use an anclosed sub in reverse so the cone fires into the enclosure.
bare in mind the enclosure will need to be smaller as it does not need to compensate for the actual size of the sub when that's in the box.
Does that make sense...think about it for a bit if it doesnt.

the sub doesnt have to be a free air sub to be mounted invertley, but if you have two subs, one normal and one inverted (known as an 'Isobaric' enclosure) then one sub will have to be wired out of phase (pos and neg reversed).

Yeah try and make sure you fit it well i.e make sure that the rubber/foam surround doesnt catch the edge of the box's hole cut-out and also make sure its well sealed if its in a sealed enclosure which isnt that easy in that situation. I tried this set-up with my subs to give them a little more volume to play in, but i couldnt get a good enough seal and they didnt sound nice.

i was right.
u can invertibly mount a sub without it being free air, but corb mentioned isobaric which is mounting two subs face to face with out of fase so one pulls n the other pushes.
