Don't see too many videos of people recovering their aeroplanes using ballistic parachutes...

Fast forward to 1:50 for the good bit...

It's a ballistic parachute attached to the airframe. They're attached to a rocket which fires the parachute into the sky and then various cable pull out from hidden places and you float down to the ground inside the plane without getting out. There are a few light aircraft which come with them and people can add them to their kit planes when they assemble them if the choose.

With a wing being a pretty integral part of a plane why did it just FALL off so easily?

Just gives me another reason not to fly watching that

The pilot says fatigue in the wing root. Sounds fairly plausible as flying aerobatics does cause a lot of stress that will really show up any weak spots you may have caused by fatigue or even over stressing during manoeuvres.

That aircraft is fully aerobatic as is cleared for inverted flight so it would be pretty bad if it was that!
