Unfortunately the Vauxhall battery had seen better days so I invested in a halfords battery Vaux battery. Has more starting power than the Vaux battery so should turn over easier

Also I've grown up since I last changed my sidelight bulbs , I had "xenon" blue sidelights which are outdated now

I've replaced them with some led ones in bright white , picture doesn't do them justice

Can see the difference (old on the left new on the right)

Both in

Got plenty to fit now ...

New oil filter
New alternator belt
Solid mounts (all three)
Solid steering rack mounts
Poly flex steering rack rubbers
Bulbs are already in

31/1/16

After fitting the new battery and the bulbs I came to start the car and the starter just clicked which was a tad strange. Tried again same fault. I smelt burning at this stage and saw smoke coming from under the bonnet
I quickly jumped out of the car and had a look , little fire had started !
So I threw some water over the fire and it went out.

I looked underneath and all I could see was a melted cable tie and the drivers brake lines has singed :/ I've ordered a new one.
I couldn't see anything else to suggest where the fire had started.

I rang Adam Beard to ask for some advice and he came over and found the faults
One of the earths had broken and the starter motor is knackered.
Massive thank you to Adam for coming and looking.

So I bought a new starter motor , hoping to fit it next week

New starter

Had a look with Adam over the car for anything else that could have started the fire

No jubilee clip on the fuel pipe

Put one on

After all that I thought I'd change the rear gearbox mount - easy job

Old mount

Old v New

Now here comes the bad part , I believe the body has swelled slightly as the solid mount doesn't fit ...

Or am I missing something ?

Jack under the mount then lower the car down on to it so it aligns?

It's the angle of the flat edge of the mount to the body that doesn't align , I'm sure it's the bubble in the body that causes it to be off

I know , I'm thankful it wasn't a massive fire and as you say happened now and not down the road. If it had been down the road I think this would have been a very different story

Shame to hear this George. Is it a full car by the way or still a project? Price for the lot?

Especially after the battery investment that took place, hoping it was a good investment
