Because it's a look, and wrapping is cheaper than the real thing. Makes sense if you want the looks but can't afford or don't actually want the real deal.
Should wrap some alloys in this stuff

i really like the 3m stuff which i guess is wot you used, looks top job and nice to c a carbon (look) bad boyed bonnet, be good to c it on a car!
i like the look of carbon but not so bothered about the lightness which is wot its ment to be about.... and in the real world on a road car is a real carbon bonnet gonna make a noticable difference to the cars performance?!

You could then apply 3m laminate over that for the gloss look.

It's not 3m stuff the 3m stuff is not a wrapping cast film and it's only really for flat things . It's a make called apa , extremly good as for the laminating it can be done but it's shiny in really life the pics are crap tbh ,

Criticism is jealousy? So just because you think it's good everyone's to agree?
Good point though, I've wanted chrome wheels for years now - but since I can't afford to splash out on the real deal I think I'll just wrap my wheels in tin foil, it'll look good and be cheap.
Fair enough if it's your thing, as said I'm just not a fan.
