Car is off road (yes "the" car)

While i'm doing bits i want to clean engine bay and everything under bonnet so its all shiny and new looking.

Its a real mess at the moment and not really been cleaned for 15yrs

Anyone know any good products/tips, especially for removing the wax protection stuff, its like 4mm thick in places and just pulls off, but the thinner areas are harder to remove, don't want to scratch all the paint/laquer




quick wipe/spray with tardis



am going to be there forever at this rate

why not get a pressure washer in there? pray some tardis, let it do it's thing then wash off.

Traffic film remover (TFR) and a jet wash.. Just make sure your engine is running while you do it and leave it ticking over for about 15mins after and it will be like new mate

the gunky/oily stuff comes off ok with the tardis, but there's a layer of this wax stuff that it does touch.

looks like dirt until you scrape it, i wondered if a heatgun would work, but then wondered where the wax goes????

can use a pressure washer. Degreaser. TFR and that should get it all off. a little bit of elbow greece for the harder areas

this is the stuff, seems to be thick in all the recessed parts, and a thin layer over the rest

People will always go on about the big names, but nothing beats halfords engine bay cleaner, worked in with a brush and rinsed off with a hose, then dress pipes/plastics with back to black. I used this method for edition38 and the judges commented on how clean my bay was!

Autosmart do a mega heavy duty degreaser called Plus 10 or a 3 x times stronger than Tardis thing called preptone. You need to be careful with both though!

had the same issue on that grey golf, just used thinners, i didnt mind if it took the paint off though as i was painting it

i think i am going to buy a heatgun and melt it off, then soak it up with old rags while its still liquid

could try a strong degreaser, that wont damage the paint just take ages,
yeah probably best to bring it to me for a full restoration though

been told to try boiling water from the kettle, sounds quite promising
