I've just got the keys to my new house, the combi boiler is in the garage and is wired to a plug which is just in a normal socket. I want to put it on a wall mounted kill switch like you have on a cooker.
If British gas see it plugged in to a normal socket would it be condemned?

What amp rating switch do I need and does it need it's own circuit in the fuse box.

Nothing wrong with it being plugged into a normal socket. Many of the newer boilers are done this way

Seriously? That good news, going off the state of the wiring in the rest of the house I was sure it'd be wrong.

nothing wrong with it being plugged in, if you really want to put it on a fuse spur just take one from the back of the sockets

most new combi boilers should be fitted with a 5 amp fuse

I personally think it looks rough and want it on a fused switch for it. The previous owner has taken spurs from the back of wall sockets all over over the house. This is more than likely why only 2 plug sockets are working, as they're run off the garage circuit for some reason. My cousin is an electrician, he's coming down Wednesday. We'll be ripping all the crap out and starting again.

It's a Modena boiler, when you say removeable fuse I take it you mean fuse in the plug?

I rest my 'it looks rough' case.

Should have put a spur above that singe socket and chased the wire in.

Tidy FTW

Indeed, a switched spur and bobs your uncle.
Could have even fitted it next to the boiler on the red wall if you didnt want to re-tile.

but obviously with it being in a kitchen only someone who is qualified to do it could have done the chasing etc. Unless of course you have already notified the local council of the changes your making......

That's where you and me differ
The rest of the wiring in the garage to me is dangerous so it will be rewired and encased in trunking throughout.

If the rest of the wiring is being done then of course it would make sense to sort it.
