recently i've seen the police park a van up with a speed camera in the back. bout 200yards down the road they are pulling over the cars that have been speeding.
but don't they have to have signs up saying that they are doing speed checks?

yes it is legal for them to do so, the van must be clearly visible, but it doesnt matter about signs etc, those laws were only brought in for fixed gatso cameras

All hese police vans that i see normally do have signs quite a way before them, normally saying 'police, slow down' apparently these camera's they have set up check if you tax is valid, not to check your speed.

Yes, sorry i meant to say these cameras they have set up check if your tax is valid, not always your speed. They have different cameras for different things.

I doubt they are doing speed checks. More likley they are looking for cars with no tax etc. They do them here in london all the time.

Yea, but you don't know the difference in the cameras, so it's best just to keep to the speed limit, and have a valid tax disc. but when i keep to the limit, i always have w*nkers up my a*rse, like over speed bumps and you can't go fast over them cus your car's too low. I just pull over until all the traffic's gone!

There was a van and car+bikes around where I live in Crewe. It had now signs up, what they were doing as someone else has said is checking veichle details. They had cameras, van said mobile Surveillance unit. I have also been caught speeding, they were hiding behind a tree with a camera thing on a tri-pod, I was clocked doin 43 in 30, got 3 pts £60 fine. To be fair didn't know how fast I was goin and prob best thing really bein caught as a lot more carefull now! It does work you get caught you slow down as its expensive on fines and insurance extras.
