Guys, need some help about Pay Pal.

I don't really use it, so not very clued up on it.

I am trying to sell my little MX-5, and someone has emailed, saying he will buy it, but want to pay me through Pay Pal.

The thing is, he hasn't been to see the car, he has said he will pay the full amount what i am asking for. He is also insisting on paying though pay pal, even though i have said i would prefer cash, or he has to wait until the money to clear before collecting the car.

Am i the only one to think this is dodgy?
Is there a way he can screw me over with this?
Should i just tell him to GTF, or just take the mug up on his offer and run the the full amount?

I wouldn't. Fuck the fees on a car for starters, not forgetting you'll undoubtedly get fucked in the ass some other way

If he wants to do it that way, let him.

Make sure you get the amount you want though, if the car was £1000, he need to pay you £1035.40, minus fees it's £1000.

When he comes to collect it, make sure he signs something regarding the car.

On the lines of "Paid in full via Paypal, Bought as seen and no refunds are to be made via paypal under any circumstance" Make him sign it and there's fuck all he can do, to screw you over.

He may just want to pay via PP because he's got some cash in there, and works 9-5 so can't get to a bank or something. Just make sure you cover yourself if you go ahead with it.

DO NOT DO IT
People can show amounts of money in there paypal account which are not even there.
By time its all found out you have lost your car.

IE i can show i have £5000 in my paypal which i really isent anywhere, i can tranfer that to you show i have paied £5000 into you paypal. I pick up that day and off i go with car logbook etc etc 3 days go by and cash never clears and paypay retract the money.

OR

Let him pay threw paypal BUT do not let me take the car until funds have cleared in your bank, an your bank can confirm.

CASH IS KING.......

May want to put it on his credit card hence using paypal. But there are also some dodgy tricks out there too.

Not many people would buy a car from ebay without viewing it. Although i didnt view my Golf before i bought it and it was much better than expected

It's a scam!

Alarm bells are ringing here!

- hasn't seen the car
- wants to pay FULL ASKING PRICE
- wants to pay by PayPal ONLY
- refuses to pay by other means

If he wants to pay for the car on his credit card (if he gives you that excuse), he can withdraw the money either from an ATM or at his local bank depending on how much the car is for sale for.

This is a really simple scam - fool someone into accepting your offer of buying a car by PayPal, transfer the money, pick the car up and a day or so later the money gets sent back to PayPal from your account.

You then have no car and no money to show for this "transaction".

Whittie offering PayPal advice

Don't do it, probably some Nigerian scammer.

edit; just tell him you're more than happy to wait until the money clears.

If he has written confirmation that he cannot get a refund, does the V5 form properly and waits for the money to clear and withdraws it.... What can go wrong

Yeah cheers guys !

My car isn't on Ebay.

It's advertised on Gumtree. That's what makes it even more strange ?

All morning he has been quick with his emails, but now i have told him i will only except cash or banker's draft, and now he hasn't replied.

So i think i've dodged a bullet with that one.

My car is adversited in loads of places, but i'm not a member on that forum, and i didn't want to sign up just to make 1 post.

But if it still hasn't sold in a couple of weeks, i shall try there too.

You should have let him "pay" you with Paypal and then punch him in the nuts when he came to collect the car

Nah you know how it goes.... he would have organised a courier to collect the car.

Could do what the scam baiter chaps do and when it came to collect the car, put a scrap car on there

Written confirmation isn't worth a carrot, V5 will surrender your right to ownership and even if you withdraw the money you get a negative Paypal balance and Paypal debt collectors asking for it back.
