fella near me couldnt get his m3 up this hill on way home. made it in the corsa no problems. people had left ranger rover sports etc parked up down this lane as the ice was that bad.

these snow tyres are they a bit of a con? someone at work bought some last year and i helped carry them to her car when they arrived, tbh they didnt look a lot different just a little bit more tread
cant see that mking much difference

all the tests i've seen of them seem to show a big difference, remember some footage from last year.

but i reckon yes, a lot of the cheaper ones are probably no better than decent normal tyres

I've got a set of these that the gf's dad got me http://www.autosock.co.uk/ for this year, waiting to try them out

I have about 5 miles of winding roads and anything to give me a little more grip than I had at the begin of this year is fine by me.

Nic will be able to correct me if I'm wrong but aren't winter tyres a different compound that work better at lower temperatures?

wouldnt have a clue tbh

theyre designed to push the snow etc away from the tread instead of getting compacted up in the gaps which is what loses you the grip. no idea on the blends of rubber theyre made from though
