Have ago at drillin, play around, see for ureself if a drilled airbox sounds right for you.
If not then spend the money on induction! Ure going to get rid of the airbox anyway, so have a play around b4 you spend ure cash.
Personally I've drilled mine, K&N pan fliter, more than happy with it.

When you drill, 2 main things to make sure of,
1 - drill below the filter line, Ie only on the unflitered side of the box,
2 - away from the eng, holes on the eng side will let warm air in, u want cold air!
That pic of mine, the box is upside down, think its about 19/20 8mm holes in it. Also did my house mates, same size holes, but we put 40 holes in his. sounds much deeper and louder. Going to put some more in mine soon.
Also you can cut the pipe on the inside of the box. (see pic below) This is a restrictor, cutting the pipe back to the side of the box, ie where its small, will also let more air into eng.
Dont forget to reset ECU if you drill your airbox 2.
Good luck.

You would need to reset ECU with an induction 2! By adding an induction/drillin airbox your changing the mix going into eng, and therefore need to reset the system.
Easy to do, just unplug ure battery for couple of hours, re-connect, start car, (DO NOT PUT FOOT ON ACCEL!!) Let it run for about 20sec and job done.

Dont know what the Loudest/best induction is to buy, as i say, was going to get one on mine, but had a play with drillin the airbox which cost me nothing, and to me it sounds better then other SRis ive heard with inductions. Totally personal thing tho, what sounds good to one person may not to another.
If i were you, spend an hour drillin sum holes and tryin it out, drill sum more, if not get an induction.

ive had many different things on my GSi, k&n, piperX, gmax, enclosed ramair and now finally drilled box with k&n panel and a couple of decent cold air feeds and its by far the best so far..no flat spots what so ever, nice hard pull through the revs and a nice growl when you boot it

Luke, I wanna look as I will be doing mine too. Gonna order a piper x panel filter I think, unless K & N are better. What did you use for the cold air feeds?
