Went out to start the car (x14xe) this morning and didnt want to start.
The car turns over but doesnt fire up.
It has been struggling for a while when cold/damp, but starts up fine when warm.
What is the usual diagnosis for this problem? (spark plugs etc.)
Any help would be much appreciated.

First thing id check is the battery, may seem fine but is there enough power to give it the turn over it needs to start? Also spark plugs. Cold weather kills batterys that seem fine beforehand

Battery should be cool if it's turning over normally, takes quite a bit of juice to do.

cheers guys. im thinking the damp was getting into the spark plugs? so iv closed the gaps slightly and put my engine cover back on. see what difference this makes in the morning :/

sorry alan. iv got a leak from a pipe connecting to radiator, really need to sort it. so no i dont have anti-freeze in. advisable to go out and put it in now right?

It was probably frozen.

If you have no anti freeze in it the water will freeze overnight.

No bother bud, as said though it's maybe frozen and you've taken out the cambelt. If it's not holding water then instead of putting anti freeze in it just to leak out I'd just be draining it of water over night.

If it doesn't work at all (even bumping it/ jumping it) whip the belt cover off and give it a wee look.

I was just thinking, scrap what I said about bump starting it. That's when you start taking out valves if the timing's out.

Sod draining your rad / engine / header tank of water every night and refilling it in the morning! Just fix the leak and get some antifreeze in there

the leak seems to be coming from the pipe connecting the top left side of the radiator where it joins. What would be the best way of repairing this? .. Sorry if i sound a noob by the way.

The hose from the thermostat to the radiator? I'd be hopping down to a scappies mate, all you'll need for that is a flatblade screwdriver.

erm, the 'S' shaped pipe. So you'd recommend just replacing the pipe? again, appreciate the help guys

edit: the pipe that normally sits under the cold air feed.
