Managed to sheere the 3 blts in the gearbox holding it to the mount on my B Gsi, wondering if anyone had any ideas about where i could get new mounts from, as i have elonggated the holes, and also, could these bolts be drilled out, or is the gearbox gonna have too come out to drill them?? have removed rad etc etc to make room, but not sure if a hand drill would do it!??

cheers

Why did you drill and tap a bolt out? And a die is for putting a thread on a bolt

Depending how it sheared don't use an easy out, cause if that snaps in it you've got no chance, unless you spark erode it,.

I'd try punching them round first, if not drill em out using a carbide drill, and tap em out, or helicoil em if you get it off centre.

Aaah this thread has just reminded me of the joy i have coming up! I sheared a bolt off on the gearbox mount that sits under the car! Aswell as trying the punch trick, i used an easy out (largest i could get in the bolt and that sheared off as well! Might have another go at sorting it out this weekend! Joy!

ah right fro, wouldn't have thought that'd work. How did you manage to stop the tap from just unscrewing though?

Whenever I've had to deal with a rounded off bolt I've just drilled down the centre of the head and unscrewed it at that. Namely a head bolt on an XE, total pain in the arse.

The tap was going deeper in when being turned left with a bit of a push which was the way the bolt needed to go. I always thought they go clockwise but meh it worked

Left handed tap then, lucky boy lol. Just don't go trying to repair any standard threads with them though

Really? Who do you work for?
I've removed fair few snapped flywheel bolts/ helicoiled fair few tapped holes in cranks, bummer of having vauxhall garage next to my work.

Most common drills are fluted to cut/ turn clockwise, so this will just rub, heat the bolt up and make it harder, and shag ya drill bit.
