it appears my b has all the common problems related with a blown head gasket i think iv caught it early as the symptons are only minor' fingers crossed as im not in a position to buy an other car at the mo'
just want to get an idea what the average cost is from having the head skimmed ,
pressure test and at worse if the head is warped.

If the head is warped the skimming will sort it out. I was just shy of £300 many moons ago to have the head done on my XE corsa.

At a guess between £200-£400, depends on the garage.

its the 1.4 16v ecotec on a R plate
the skimming is relatively simple in its self isnt it ,its the cost of labour and parts that bumps the bill up?

I would not recommend doing a head gasket if you don't know what you are doing as you could fuck the timing then engine.

If you've got no previous experience of working on cars you can't just jump in and do a head gasket ffs. You'd end up doing more bad than good. Fair enough changing air filters and batteries and simple stuff like that but if you've not done any sort of mechanical work doing a head gasket would be like learning to play tennis one day then playing Roger Federer the next.
