I have the Revo which has VGA and HDMI from the unit.
I'm running W7 and then launch XBMC inside it (W7 was already installed, couldn't be arsed faffing around with installing XBMC Live or ubuntu). Cold boot I'd say 20-30 seconds?
EDIT: This install takes 20/21 seconds, booting straight into XBMC with a few services running too; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu3v5QFBaWE

See my edit above - there's a linux distro that boots in seconds, I'll find the link

http://www.openelec.tv/
Youtube videos showing examples of it running are quite old, beta2 of OpenElec and the latest XBMC were only released a few days ago.

Nice one cheers! I'll take a look at all the links and vids when I get home.
So long as I never have to touch a mouse or keyboard again after initial setup, it will be a serious contender.

No problem
I control XBMC from my phone (instead of a MCE remote), so you definitely won't have to use a mouse or keyboard.

Absolute rubbish, well compared to the popcorn hours anyway.
I used to have an old A110 and I now have a C200. The A110 was so amazingly good I bought a C200 on pre-order.
Whilst the Revo sounds good, just try to bare in mind what your trying to achieve here.
If you want a decent media player that is built to do the job you want it to, why look at a PC?

Horses for courses.
If you want a Plug & Play media player then Popcorn Hour's are about the best, although the standard GUI is a bit crap but YAMJ improves it some what. Want more functionality (Multi-tuner PVR etc) then a HTPC is the way to go.

Not interested in tuners or PVR... but I don't think that was suggested with the Revo.
I have fully subbed Sky running through an Icecrypt S4000HD that records unencrypted to my NAS... no need for any other form of tuner of PVR functionality.

Had one about 6 months ago and it was great... played pretty much everything I had at the time (including the obscure recordings from my Icecrypt S4000HD), but I just didn't like the way it browses the files/movies... I got rid in favour of just using my PS3 whilst I made my mind up about what else to buy. I also didn't like the remote, or more specifically, the lack of discrete codes available for the WDTV live so that I could program my Pronto to work it a bit better.

Do you know if you can set up little play lists on it?
I currently use an old XBox running XBMC and I can create a little playlist of say 4 episodes of Scrubs to fall a sleep to. Is that possible on the WDTV Live?
Or is it possible on the Popcorn Hour ?

Drop me a pm if you get stuck / any questions.
YAMJ isn't easy to setup for the first time, but easy to use once setup.

YAMJ is alright but it's a lot of fucking about everytime you want to update the library. It'd be so much better if you could do it on the PCH rather than through a Windows machine.
@Doug, you can create music playlists, I believe they've updated it to support video now too.

I can see how plugging in a USB cable, then hitting a button and waiting for YAMJ to rescan and rebuild can be seen as 'fucking about'

Because, as above in stubs' situation, if it's tucked away, it's just not practical.
Let's not forget that every time you have to ensure it's scraped the content properly. Oh, and unless you don't want to sit around for hours on end, you need to copy the jukebox to your local hdd, then run YAMJ, check it, then copy it back.

Also a fairly obvious one here.....
Will the WDTV Live work with just standard windows 7 shares? Or do I need to run a program on my computer to server the media?

I'm sure the PCH I have worked fine with my W7 laptop so WDTV Live should be the same, if not; http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1194088

eBay from the usa, delivery time "could be" 2-3 working days, but has 14 days as a safety I think.
