I need to get a new toner for my laser printer, I've seen genuine ones for sale for £50, and "compatible" ones for about £15.

I've also seen refill kits for a few quid as well.

Is it OK to buy a compatible one or should I just stick with the genuine OEM toners? The genuine one I should get about 2500 prints off it apparently, but no idea with the non OEM ones.

We use compatible ones at work and have done for years with no problems, we get 20k prints rather than hp 15k too.

We always use compatible ones too as our department can't afford the real thing - seems to work ok

Always used to get genuine HP ones at work then they moved onto compatible ones. Ever since the change we've been ringing the IT helpdesk more and more often with printer faults.

In my experience the colours are not as saturated on the compatible ones. Contrast is better with genuine. Depends how important that is to you. I've run both with no reliability issues.

Well the printer I bought brand new about 2 or 3 years ago, still on the original starter toner but even taking it out and shaking it the LED still stays on so it's time to buy a new one.

Printer only cost me about £30 with discount from Staples at the time, a new OEM toner is obviously more than that as per one of my posts above!

I might buy a compatible one and give it a whirl, if it's shit I'll just buy an OEM one and keep the compatible as a backup.

Don't really want to buy a new laser printer as there's nothing wrong with it.
