Hi guys,

few of us on the s2000 forum are getting some parts imported, bumpers, diffusers etc

I found a calculation site where you enter item description, postage cost and package value.

All detailed below, just wandering if anyone confirm if this seems correct and if their is anyway we can get the cost lower

Total value of the parts are 3400 USD + 425 USD postage

Total customs value: £2653.73 Inc postage
Import duty: £119.42
Import VAT: £485.30
Total import duty & VAT due: £604.72
Total landed cost: £3258.45 at USD/GBP exchange rate of 0.6281

Cheers

If you say its only worth $1000 thats all it will be insured for.

There is no safe way of avoiding the tax

Last thing I had shipped from Japan I think I ended up paying 17.5% VAT, whatever the import duty was and Parcel Force charged me £7 for a letter saying it was at the depot I had to pay the charges.

As said declaring at a lower value is all well and good until something arrives damaged and you can only claim for that value. If you're organising for a group buy that is one thing I certainly wouldn't do as if they all turned up battered you're all screwed.

That's because you won't pay anything on samples that actually ARE samples, not multiple quantities of the same items!

Speak to AdrianK on S2ki.

Me and him imported a few things and we got them to quote the value as $100 - and so paid about £20 duty.

I get stuff valued at a lower value. Insurance is affected but that's a risk you take.

A guy also told me to get them to label goods as 'samples' and this does away with import duty.

Either that or find a product that holds a lower % import duty (like 1%) and declare them as that.

How stupid do people think customs are? Even if you put it as samples or a gift etc customs can still inspect it and charge you more.
