Now please forgive me if this has been asked before!
Been trying to my rear shock nuts for ages now.. tried everything. mole grips, spanners, 4 people trying to stop it from spinning but nope still no luck! The problem is I can get spanner and that on i, but when trying to undo it the whole shock inside just spins 
Just wondering how you all got yours off etc and any tips?! thinking about welding metal bar to the top of the shock..

If they are properly stuck then cut the side of the nut off and fit new nuts. If they are going in the bin then just cut them off.
Usually mole grips work though

The shock spins? Have you taken the wheel off and unbolted it from the axel?

Holding it with mole grips or a spanner should work, are you working against yourself?
Try bolting back to the axle, that way it can't spin at all.

Basically i get someone to hold the actual shock and the casing if you like on the outside doesnt move.. but you can just hear the metal inside just turning with the spanner :\ kind of really stupid!

Is it the standard shocks you're trying to remove? If so you can't actually see the part that is spinning because it has a cover over it.
Here's a pic to help explain
The Corsa shocker is like the top one in that pic. Where the threaded rod is sticking out at the top, that's what's spinning but the part that it's sticking out of is just a plastic cover, you need to get passed that cover (probably by breaking some of it off) then there's a rod inside it which is what's spinning. You need to get mole grips on that rod and an assistant to hold them, whilst you undo the nut

Exactly as Mike said. I just cut mine off as was getting binned, do mole grip of VERY tight.
You can do it yourself as mole grips will hold against inside of the arch anyway

Also helps to use an air tool because you're less likely to induce movement in the damper shaft.
If you don't have air tools, mole grips very tight and be careful they don't slip as you don't want to damage it.

The rear shocks yes are standard ones.. I shall have ago tomorrow and let you know..
***Also fitting front coilovers is it just a straight swap or will I need to change something else?!

on the top it has a squared off piece stick the mole grips on that and use a spanner to losen it off  thats what we done

Aye there should be a small flat at the top where you can get a hold of it with a adjustable spanner.
Failing that, I took the plastic cover off the shock and just put a grinder through the rod on the shock

Ok we got shocks off, however what should I put back on to the new shock as I don't think all of the bushes and that leaves enough room for the nut

Well we managed to use grease and force to get the metal stopper into the rubber busher.. Now though we can't tighten the new one without it spinning again.. even made a door like shape and had two mole grips in there

Take it to a garage, they'll loosen it for a tenner.

i had a similar problem when i did mine, made even harder because the top of the shock was buggered from previous owner :/ i put a ring spanner on first onto the bolt. then got a big adjustable spanner and did that up tight onto the top of the shock then it was just a case of holding the adjustable, whilst twisting the ring spanner. hope that helped

Okay, managed to get bit of bolt etc on..
However it still turns a heck of a lot making it impossible to do the nuts up!

Your best off taking it to a garage then, better to have it right then the bolt work its way loose and then you shock fuck up. Plus if they arnt done up properly over 20mph the wobble like a bitch!!!
