I need a new aerial in my places as the reception of freeview is shocking.

Given that I'm going to have to pay to upgrade it, is there any benefit of going for FreeSat instead? Better reception? Less choppy signal?

I live in a fair sized town so freeview signal should be fine, just wondered if theres anything I'm missing?

I think Dom mentioned in another thread that the HD channels on freeview are actually a higher bitrate than sky.

I like freesat better though, think you get a slightly better selection of channels and the reception kind of has to be perfect, unless there's loads of cloud cover in bad weather when it is affected.

Can live without it I guess but would be nice.

On the other hand, iPlayer without the internet is a great idea.

I'm very tempted. No idea what it costs to get a satellite dish installed but nevermind.

Edit - oh wait, iPlayer does come down the broadband.

BBC HD is similar on both platforms (Freeview is better though) but channels like Channel 4 and ITV broadcast at a lower resolution and bitrate on Freesat compared to Freeview even though they supply Sky with higher bitrate/resolution streams (encrypted obviously)

This will probably change when Freesat moves to DVB-S2.
