Its to correct the air/fuel ratio. If its fudged you'll just be getting the wrong ratio and it'll be under or over fuelling.

pretty sure the ecu only references the lambda at idle, doubt you’ll notice any effects tbh

It does, even on a let it only reads on idle, for ages m7 friend ran about with a fucked lambda on his let and it was fine and i never could figure out why untill i read on that maxboost that the lamba only comes into play on idle for what ever reason

yes sorry, missed the ‘as' in my previous reply, meant to say pretty sure AS the ecu....its juts a device used for emissions control, hence it only goes closed loop at idle
