My mate's decided to move there after a job offer...
Came a bit out of the blue and from 'thinking about it' he's now leaving in two weeks time  he's got a mortgage and only lived there a year! Anyway I know there's some strict rules involving women and drinking etc. just wondering what people have experienced over there?
If me and the girlfriend went over there to visit, I believe we wouldn't be allowed to stay in the same apartment!?

I have seen it all here. Your perception of Dubai isn't really that of a true one if I'm honest.
Strict rules involving women and drink isn't really true at all. The weekend is one big pissup just like it would be in any other place and the majority of the time you wouldn't know you weren't in a western city. As long as you don't take the piss and shag her in the middle of the street then take a piss against a wall afterwards, then you won't have any bother.
Legally yes, if you and your GF come over you aren't supposed to stay in the same apartment/hotel, but it isn't enforced.
You'd have absolutely nowt to worry about if you came over here, believe me.

Went to Dubai 5 years ago. Its amazing. I'd move over there tomorrow if we didn't have a kid etc.

dubai is a very english country  . they still have their own customs and rules but are very slack compared to saudi arabia etc. biggest issue is the womens rights as they dont really have any. if your mrs is drunk etc you can normally get them home by bribing a taxi driver ( as they are ment to take them straight to the police station.) your mate will soon learn what goes and what doesn't out there and tbh its a very nice place to be. he will prefer it to england.

I'm going out there in April for 2 weeks with my Girlfriend, we're staying with our friends who are engaged and live together, basically our friends told us exactly what LiamC has already said

Oh that sounds good then, starting to make me a little jealous now! Wouldn't wanna do it forever though, a year out of England would be nice however!
