Not really, there used to be 3rd party downloads with all updates but microsoft put a stop to it.

I'd hazard a guess at it needing something that's not installed.

You can download service packs (SP3 etc) and most .NET (.Net 3.0 Framework) frameworks from the microsoft website. But everything else requires the destination system to be connected to the net so you can use the Windows Update.

John - Autopatcher?
From what i understand it still works, but it downloads everything form the MS servers instead of being included with the Autopatcher download. It might be worth having a look on the autopatcher forums ocean, if it is still going then you'll need to install it to a system that is online, download the XP updates, then copy the whole lot (Autopatcher directory under program files) to your workstation and then run autopatcher again.

Is there no way you can get the system connected as it'd make life easier?

Think that was it, used to be big in making slipstreamed XP cd's, not looked at it for literally years now.

Slipstreamed? Wasn't that nLite?
Autopatcher used to be a monthly/bi-monthly download that'd include all of the major updates. Was especially useful if you had an online "purchased" copy of XP

Aye that's it, I know what you're talking about and I'm sure that autopatcher used to be part of it.

A fresh install of XP will need a lot of updates, 3G dongle could take a while.

It may be something else causing it to fail, updates are worth a try though if you can get a connection.

Sorted. I spoke to Rockwell Automation who gave me a link to a rescourse pack ISO that contained an updated RSVLogin.
