My Ibiza is ready for scrapping now, although its only the shell and engine block left, looking on direct.gov site it says

quote:
Authorised treatment facilities
The ATF will give you a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) straight away if they agree to take your vehicle. They’ll also tell DVLA that you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle. Keep the certificate as proof that the vehicle has been destroyed and you’re no longer responsible for it.

But does this still stand for just a shell? As the V5 needs sorting out so Im not responsible for it anymore

I just fill mine in and send it off as if ive sold it someone, just put something like "d Jones scrap metals" and no address as the new keeper, they will send you a letter saying you are no longer the registered keeper and all is well

Thats teh problem, the new legislation states you cant just scrap a vehicle you have to have a scrappage certificate from an approved company.

I sent mine to DVLA and said the shell was cut up and weighed in and they were fine with it.

If you've got an old style V5C you can tick the "Scrapped box" if its a new one then you must take it to an ATF or find a local company that will do it for you.

Find a metal dealer and tick the scrapped box on the log book.

I suspect it's rather late to be debating this.

Yep, fact of the matter is, if the turbo or injectors went, I wouldn't of had the money to replace them. This way stands to pay me back about 3-3.5k which is market value for a standard one in fairly good nick
