This is what I think
This is what other drivers think
Am I wrong?

Yours I'd say, you wouldnt go in the left lane to go right, even if it does lead to a dual carridgeway.

It's the first way unless directed differently.

I always do it the first method but other drivers get in the way because they're turning right using the left lane, I just didn't know because it was going from 2 lanes to 2 lanes
and there is no arrows or road signs

Then it's the way I've stated. Other drivers are wrong but I would always check my mirror before moving over to take the inside lane onto the dual carrageway or just take the outside lane of the carrageway, sticking to middle of the roundabout

i was always taught that left lane was left turn or straight on and right lane was everything right of straight on, unless it's marked otherwise.
so your view is correct

I was always taugh on lessons if its 2 lanes
Left lane - Left and Straight on
Right lane - Straight on and right.
I know what you mean though, one near my girlfriends the same, i have to go straight on at the roundabout but the bear right, so i get in the right lane, the amount of fucking idiots that are in the left lane but are wanting to go right. I've had a few near misses, and a couple of times been forced to swerve and go back round the roundabout.

Let's be honest though, if there was some daft fat cow in the car in front doing 20mph coming up to the roundabout and she stuck her indicator on to go right we'd all seriously consider going the 2nd way shown above. In theory there's not much the matter with it.

I also have this problem with drivers coming the other way;
What they think I'm doing and what they can do:
What I'm actually doing:

living in mk im an expert on roundabouts. andy is right. the only reason youd go in the left hand lane to turn right is if there isnt a road to go straight over on

You have right of way in that pic I reckon ^ I was always taught not to enter a roundabout when there traffic coming from the right even if they aren't in the lane in case people need to change lanes like you do in that situation.

From the highway code to avoid confusion.
quote:
186
Signals and position.
When taking the first exit to the left, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
signal left and approach in the left-hand lane
keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave
When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
signal right and approach in the right-hand lane
keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want
When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
select the appropriate lane on approach to the roundabout
you should not normally need to signal on approach
stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want
When there are more than three lanes at the entrance to a roundabout, use the most appropriate lane on approach and through it.
