My TV has recently started turning itself on and off, sometimes it wont do it for an hour or so but then other times it will do it twice in a minute. It's an LG, 50'', not sure on full product number but I can get it later if it helps.
Any ideas?

Brett is your man for this. I seem to recall an issue with dodgy capacitors but can't remember if this was with LG or another brand. He'll confirm or this may be another issue.

Dodgy caps is usually on Samsung TVs.
But it sounds like a similar problem. What model is it?
Check http://www.avforums.com/ to see if it's a common fault.
Phone up LG/Barnshaw and tell them your problemo

No timer on whittie as it does it randomly after an hour or so, I'll check the model shortly. When it turns on it's fine, normal, but after a while it will keep turning itself on and off

You sure nothing is triggering it ie: another remote, or something the emits IR? Sounds odd but i have seen similar things happen in the past. Cover up the IR sensor on the TV (electrical tape or gaffer); chances are it is something electrical but you never know

Not that I know, Dom. I even took the batteried out of the TV remote for a while to see if it was that and it kept doing it

Simular thing happened to my old hitachi 32ld660... I ended up replacing the power board myself (easy, just unscrew and screw new one back in) and it was fine after (£30 ebay).

Insurance people say the TV is fucked and have written it off, not even 3 years old yet, going to drive it to Currys in Perth and throw it through their window on fire if they don't give me a new one
