Watched an interesting F1 documentary on BBC4 last night, all about how the safety in F1 came about etc. The David Purley footage always gets me

Here it is on iPlayer if your interested.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00z8v18/Grand_Prix_The_Killer_Years/

Question is does anybody know of any other good documentaries that are similar and look back at the history of F1?

Cheers

Good one about James Hunt on before christmas.

He was a LAD!

It was called 'When playboys ruled the world' i think.

It looked at the careers of Hunt and Barry Sheene

BBC4 have been doing a sterling job recently with F1 documentaries etc. Hunt, Hill, Stewart etc.

The whole story around Senna's death gets me every time

Just finished watching it, very good documentary, never realised that so many people died. I knew it was bad but never that bad!

That was quality. Relieving tension before a race with a quicky, legend.

Just watched the BBC "killer years" one, David Purley scene is beyond sad, you can see his frustration right from the start

Senna film is coming out in April I believe.

another good one is "The Real James Hunt" that was brilliant, and actually quite sad at bits.

Theres a brilliant scene where he gets past Niki Lauda at Brands after nearly 30 laps of trying, and the crowd goes mental.

Its available on line somewhere.

The Ken Tyrrell Profile is a good watch too, thats on You tube.

jackie stewart's book "winning is not enough" gives you a pretty good insight as to how the safety aspect of f1 has came about etc, as well as everything else from his f1 career.
im not a big reader but fairly enjoyed his
